‘Tunnel Vision -Take 2’

People and Places through the lens of a Blind Photographer

Kick Gallery 21 January 2010

This photographic exhibition is John Hoerner’s most recent project that continues to reflect his innate visual understanding of the world and brings to the forefront his on-going passion for photography.

While the images in ‘Tunnel Vision – Take 2’ derive from the same mind set, John Hoerner now sees the world from a different perspective as a result of a stroke that took place in 2003 and left him almost blind with very little peripheral vision -just a pin hole of light to view the world.

During this period of rehabilitation John Hoerner discovered that by looking into the screen of a digital camera he could not just see a face in front of him but the whole room full of people that the camera could see – much more than his impaired vision otherwise allowed.

As his recovery progressed he began to compile a series of images of people and places that formed a documentation of Melbourne arts identities and icons.

‘Tunnel Vision – Take 2’ is the first exhibition by John Hoerner and represents the start of a new direction for him as a photographer with a keen eye for taking pictures that reveal the character and mood of the subjects he captures.
